On the way out of the Avalon Mall, be sure to stop into Truly. Co-owner Sherrie Chapin and Samantha Hagel personify the warmth of White Bear Lake. Chapin draws a map of her favorite downtown lunch spots for one customer, while Hagel describes the story of some handblown glass jewelry. And, the shop's artistic flair-a door made into an awning- extends to merchandise that includes antique doorknobs made into wine corks, a clock and coasters made from old records, and hand-painted garden tools.

that opened in October, features the work of more than 80 independent
designers, crafters, and artisans.
This 800-square-foot shop offers an array of small,
handmade, cottage-industry items, including handbags, T-shirts,
jewelry, stationery, bath and body products, and decorative home accessories.

 If fighting over DVDs at Best Buy fails to put you in the holiday spirit, head up to White Bear Lake. This picturesque downtown doesn't get the respect of Grand Avenue or Stillwater, but it's great for gift shopping - especially with the recent addition of Truly...an "indie" boutique featuring artist-made goods...but not in the crafty, handmade-sweater-with-uneven-sleeves sense of the word. Truly...is totally modern, with a polished assortment of jewelry, stationery, handbags, pillows, baby gifts and other desirable objects that you won't find at every other store in town. Truly.
